Majority of North Texans look forward to attending Texas State Fair as part of enjoying the fall season. This large fair combines art, history, cuisine, and entertainment in one venue. It offers a chance to see and feel all sides of the Texas culture.
When is the fair?
Texas State Fair commences on Friday, September 27 running through to Sunday, October 20. The opening hours are between 10 a.m and 9 p.m while the hours are extended to 10 p.m on Fridays and Saturdays. Ticket Booths and Parking Gates open at 7 a.m.
Where is the fair?
The fair is held annually at the Dallas Fair Park located at the South of Interstate 30, a few miles on the East of downtown Dallas.
Which events should I look forward to?
Each day the fair is full of new and thrilling specific attractions and events. You cannot afford to miss performances from various artists both the popular and upcoming. It will not be complete if you fail one of the numerous pig races.
What should I make sure to eat?
Texas State Fair is an avenue of delicacies. You will enjoy yummy treats such as the juicy sausage and an oversized turkey leg. Make sure you eat Fletcher’s corny dog and the fair’s favorite-mango on a stick. You will not resist favorites from New Orleans like seafood gumbo, rice, and red beans or creole sausage.
What’s the best way to get there?
If you plan to drive to the Dallas Fair Park, it is located in the Dallas South area, accessible from I-30. Beware that you will have to pay for parking fee on top of your ticket if you decide to drive. To avoid paying you can easily access the park through riding the DART train; use the Green Line to Fair Park Station. You can also take a cab as the designated drop-off, and pick-up area is just outside Gate 1 of the Park.

I don’t like crowds, what’s the best day to go?
If you are not a fan of crowds attend during the week. If you are only available on weekends, you had better avoid the opening day (September 27) and the closing day (October 30).
I’m on a budget, but I still want to go to the fair. What do I do?
You don’t have to spend much to enjoy the Texas State of Fair. To begin with a lookout for what to bring to the gate at 5 pm and get the ticket at half price.
Thursday would be your ideal day when on a budget as there are special food pricing every Thursday for the period of the fair.
What’s the best ride?
Although all the rides are great, Texas star is incredible. You will enjoy stunning views of Fair Park, Dallas Skyline and the Cotton Bowl from the Ferris wheel.
Where can I get a good drink?
Adults’ drinks are available at a majority of concessions stand. If you want something specific, check out the State Fair Wine Garden or the Magnolia Beer Garden.
